The brief: To design and produce a clock in a high cube sea container. The clock was to tell time accurately in hours, minutes and seconds, both electronically, and via a built-in generator for use during transportation by truck and on board a container ship. The characters were to be in seven large separate segments and driven by stepper motors run by a programmable logic controller. Driving these segments was challenging given the scale. While the clock is working the sound of the movement of the components is also amplified and broadcast through speakers in the base.
